Villagers of Burunoba prepare for windbreak planting

On October 1, 2025, a community meeting was held in Burunoba village as part of TransforMed project, associating villagers, experts from Bahri Dağdaş International Agricultural Research Institute, the Nature Conservation Centre (DKM), and the Konya Regional Directorate of Forestry.

The meeting focused on the upcoming implementation of windbreaks along village fields. Partners from Bahri Dağdaş and DKM highlighted the importance of proper subsoil and topsoil preparation before planting, and presented the tree species selected to ensure efficient and resilient windbreaks. Despite the busy harvest season, villagers attended in large numbers, demonstrating strong enthusiasm for the initiative and clear motivation to establish windbreaks on their own land.

Discussions also covered practical aspects of planting and field challenges such as rocky soils, water scarcity, and frost. Villagers were encouraged to share their perspectives, voicing both concerns, like potential yield reductions due to shading, and ideas for long-term management. This open dialogue marked an important step toward protecting agricultural land from wind erosion while strengthening ecological practices in the area.
