CAPTE Tunisie - Collectif d'Acteurs pour la Plantation et la Transition Environnementale
General Missions
CAPTE stands for Collectif d'Acteurs pour la Plantation et la Transition Environnementale. The association Les Amis de CAPTE Tunisie is a non-governmental, non-profit organization founded in 2017 in Bizerte. It pursues three main objectives:
- Promoting agroforestry as a climate change adaptation solution;
- Fostering solidarity among and with farmers in the Mediterranean region;
- Protecting, conserving, and regenerating biodiversity in agricultural landscapes.
CAPTE's vision is to help reconcile agriculture and the environment through the power of trees and Nature-based Solutions.
In Tunisia, CAPTE supports farmers in their transition to agroforestry by providing technical, financial, agronomic, and human support for the integration of trees and shrubs into agro-ecosystems.
In 2020, its Environmental Corridors project was recognized by IUCN-Med as a good example of a micro-project implementing Nature-based Solutions.
Role in the project
CAPTE’s involvement in the TRANSFORMED project focuses on scaling successful agroforestry practices through knowledge-sharing, addressing socio-cultural barriers, evaluating economic and environmental impacts, and promoting supportive policies. We play an active role in developing knowledge-sharing strategies by creating dissemination materials such as learning videos and technical brochures, and organizing events to spread agroforestry innovations. Additionally, CAPTE works to identify and overcome socio-cultural barriers that hinder agroforestry adoption. We contribute to evaluating the economic feasibility and environmental sustainability of agroforestry systems, ensuring long-term viability. CAPTE also advocates for policy development, thus enabling the effective adoption of agroforestry practices in Tunisia.
