A learning journey will bring together participants from Morocco, Tunisia and Türkiye to explore concrete and innovative agroforestry experiences adapted to dryland conditions, while fostering exchange between both shores of the Mediterranean.
The route will include field visits to farms and organisations working with silvo-pastoral and regenerative systems around Évora and Montemor-o-Novo, showcasing practices such as holistic grazing, traditional montado systems and successional agroforestry approaches. Participants will also visit research and training centres in Mértola, focusing on systemic approaches to food production and landscape regeneration in semi-arid environments.
A dedicated workshop on dryland agroforestry will promote cross-learning between Mediterranean partners, while a hands-on training session on visual indicators will introduce the results-based models developed by MED. The programme will further include visits to actors in the carob value-chain and nurseries in Faro, offering insights into processing, plant material and varietal development.
Beyond technical learning, this route will strengthen professional networks, encourage peer-to-peer exchange and consolidate a shared vision for resilient and locally adapted agroforestry across the Mediterranean.
