Fruit Tree Pruning Session
During the pruning session, participants were actively engaged in hands-on practice, particularly interested in how proper pruning supports healthy young tree development. Several community members stated it was their first opportunity to learn and apply these techniques and expressed lively interest in repeating the experience.
The training covered formative pruning of young fruit trees, removal of dry and damaged branches, proper shoot selection, and basic pruning techniques, all demonstrated directly in the field. Participants highlighted the value of the training and, in particular, how they could put this knowledge into practice on the fruit trees in their own gardens.
Windbreak Implementation Session
In the second part of the day, a training session focused on the windbreaks previously planted in Burunoba. Training included recommendations for using endemic and locally adapted species (silverberry, acacia, almond), along with maintenance and irrigation requirements. Participants were particularly keen to understand post-establishment management underlining the importance of long-term community adoption and ownership of these practices.
These demonstrative sessions bring together a wide range of members and backgrounds from the rural community. By doing this, everyone can contribute with personal insights, as well as by raising concerns and questions, thereby highlighting the importance of the community's long-term adoption and ownership of new or traditional practices.
A community that learns together becomes more curious, more united and more supportive, improving its understanding and management of the local socio-ecological system.
