The field visit brought together representatives from several farmers' associations from the province of Chtouka Ait Baha, in the southern area of Agadir, who were interested in knowing AGENDA and ANDZOA activities within the frame of the TransforMed project.
Participants observed the performance of agroforestry plantations under real field conditions and discussed key technical aspects, including planting techniques, spacing, maintenance practices, and the integration of argan trees with annual and perennial crops. Particular attention was given to challenges faced by farmers, such as plant survival rates, irrigation constraints in arid environments, and protection against grazing.
The visit showcased the 10-hectare agroforestry experimentation platform, developed on the basis of successful agroforestry trials. Technical explanations were provided on the platform's design, species composition, and operational features, including the use of water storage boxes to ensure efficient irrigation under water-scarce conditions. The role of Atriplex as a forage species adapted to saline soils and dry environments was also highlighted in order to foster their promotion for future plantations.
Overall, the field visit enhanced local ownership of agroforestry practices, and reinforced dialogue between practitioners and technical staff.
